The grades for elementary and middle school are now accessible to parents.  Elementary student achievement report cards are printable by parent at home when they access.

For middle school families, they can print from home and choose option for "unofficial student transcript".  If the families need an official copy, a request can be made and office staff can provide with 48 hrs notice.

Attached is a guide for our families in middle school to print reports at home for unofficial copy. Please use this as a reference for middle school parents.

Basic Services -- LCAP Highlights

Dear Friends,

Two weeks ago, we began sharing with you some highlights of our Local Control and Accountability Plan, or LCAP.  We began with a publication titled Academic Excellence.  Today we continue our series of highlights with Basic Services – A Foundation for Excellence.

If the title links to the above documents don’t work, you can also find them at lbschools.net under the Local Control Funding section.

In the coming weeks, we will share additional highlights of the LCAP.

Best regards,

Chris

Christopher J. Steinhauser
Superintendent of Schools

Servicios Básicos -- Lo Destacado del LCAP

Estimados Amigos,

Chris

State law requires all public schools to create a School Accountability Report Card (SARC). The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about your child's school, which includes:

  • School Description and Mission
  • School Programs and Instructional Materials
  • Opportunities for Parent Involvement
  • Test Results
  • Safety Plan
  • Facilities

We invite you to view the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for your child's school.  You can find your school's SARC here.

Results of the 2017-2018 School of Choice Process for current eighth grade students will be sent home via US Mail this week. Results will also be visible in ParentVue beginning Friday, February 16, at 5:00pm.

Please remember, enrollment is not complete until you intend to a pathway that you have been accepted to. Failure to intend (via ParentVue) and certify by the deadline of 11:59pm Friday, February 23, 2018, can result in the loss of that acceptance.

After viewing your results, if you wish to file an appeal, a link to the form, as well as a paper copy will be available on our website. These forms can also be obtained from your Middle School or K8 Office.

We strongly recommend intending to a pathway while the appeals are being reviewed, as there is no guarantee of an appeal being granted.

For this year, the deadline to file an appeal is the close of business on March 16, 2018. Following that, the next opportunity to apply for a transfer will be April 1, 2019, through the High School Office.

If you have any questions, please call the High School Choice Helpline at (562) 997-8306.

The MS/K-8 Choice Office is aware that there is an error in the program that is locking some students out of selecting electives for each of their choices, and that this is preventing them from completing the application.

Our programming team is working on the issue and we will let you know when it is repaired.

The School of Choice application for sixth grade is not decided on a first come, first served basis. Every family that certifies and completes the application by the deadline will be considered on-time.

Thank you for your patience,

Team MS/K-8 Choice

Good Afternoon Everyone,

The Apex team is having a blast on Gompers campus! Today's lesson was Never Quit. We told the students how important it is to give their all in everything they do and never give up. Our new lesson wristbands were given out which were added to the student's collection.

The winner of the Anything Challenge was Mrs. Tilton Class and they got the chance to mummipie Mr. T today. Today the Apex Leaders gave their own personal challenges to their classes but the Principle Challenge is still on.  When the school reaches $1500 per lap Principle Ludden will have her team of Apex Leaders Vs. 5 students in a water balloon fight!

Here is your schools progress in pledges so far:

And here are our top classes:

Your Apex Team,

Mr. T

Thank you and Have a Great Day!

Dear Families,

The Apex Team stopped by today to talk to the students about the 5th page in becoming LEGENDARY LEADERS. NEVER QUIT was today’s lesson. Behind every great accomplishment is a long list of failed attempts but it is how we get up that shows our true leadership.

Not quitting and getting back up sure does take some humility. I’m wondering if any of my rockstar parents have a story about when they had to get back up and keep trying? Perhaps we can all take a moment to share a story about Not Quitting with one of our future leaders tonight?

Here is tonight’s challenge-

(This can be a character challenge and/or a pledge challenge, your Apex team member will tell you what tonight’s challenge is when they are in class)

Thanks

Dear Families,

I sure hope you are on pins and needles waiting to hear about our third page in becoming a Legendary Leader! We are officially there; the third page is to GIVE. Apex believes there are three ways in which one can GIVE: The Three T’s.

TREASURES: Anything that has value that can be given away.

TALENTS: An ability that you can share to strengthen or benefit your team.

TIME: Being there for someone.

Time is one of the hardest talents to give, there is so little of it in today’s society. I hope you and your child take the time tonight to talk about some of the talents you see in them. Thank you for your support of your child, this classroom and our school. You truly are making a difference.

Good Afternoon everyone,

We taught the students that the ability to learn is extremely valuable. Learning is a skill that each person has without realizing it. Having conversations with others, being in the classroom, taking test are all great examples of how we learn each day.

The first school wide challenge that we gave was the class with the highest percentage of logins to apexfunrun.com would receive our apex trophy and their Apex member would deliver it in a tutu. The winning class was Mrs. Evans class with 69% login the first night! Way to go! Tonight's challenge is called the Share Wizard where the students can go on the Apex Fun Run site and share as many times as they want. The class with the most shares will get to have lunch with the Apex Team!

Family, friends, co-workers, etc.

One of the awesome items the children want is the Free T-Shirt and all they have to do is to go in and establish their account with their access code.  A donation is not needed to get the Free T-Shirt.

Credit donations funds on the child's account online.  Each child was provided a lanyard ID card holder with their access code.

The PTA will appreciate all your support as funding provides for many things to enhance your child education & social development:

technology such as Ipads, chrome books, chrome book carts, computer lab, science technology, science lab &  field trips, etc.

We thank you for your continued support!

Gompers is great!

Summer School Registration Begins Monday, April 10th

All 9th through 12th grade students who are interested in taking Summer School classes to make up a grade to meet graduation requirements or to fulfill college entrance requirements must register using our online enrollment system.  The online system will be available starting Monday, April 10.  Summer School registration will continue until May 14 at 5 p.m.

Current 8th through 11th graders also have the opportunity to take a Math Summer Bridge course to help prepare them for the course work that they will be studying in the coming school year.  These courses include Pre-Algebra, Pre-Geometry and Pre-Intermediate Algebra.  These courses will be taken for elective credit and the grade issued will be a Pass/No Credit.  This is an excellent opportunity to get a jump start for next year.

Summer School Registration will begin by completing the application online at www.lbschools.net/summer.  After the application is submitted, the student and parent will receive an email with directions for selecting the classes that you plan to take during the summer.  You should receive this email two to three schooldays after the application is submitted.

Hello Eighth Grade Families,

The deadline to complete your enrollment into the pathway of your choice for high school on ParentVue is 11:59pm, tomorrow night, March 1, 2017.

Failure to do so by the deadline will result in the loss of the acceptance, and your student will be assigned to a school and a pathway in the district where there is space available.

To set your intent, you can do it one of three ways:

  1. Log into ParentVue, click on “School of Choice”, click on the (blue) intend button next to the pathway you prefer, and then click on the (brown) certify button at the bottom of the page. When this is done, the screen will be green and you will get a confirmation email. Keep this email for your records.
  2.
  3. You can visit your middle school or K8 Office and ask for assistance from the counseling staff, who will help you and print a confirmation page for you.

  1. You can call the Choice Helpline at (562)997-8306, or visit Team High School Choice at 1515 Hughes Way, Third Floor, where our team will be happy to assist you in setting your intention and printing your confirmation. We will only be available until 4:40pm tomorrow afternoon, as our building closes for the day.

Regardless of which option you choose, it is very important that you not miss this deadline. Even if you are submitting an appeal for a different program, set an intent to one of your selected programs while we are reviewing the appeals. The intention set will have no effect on any appeal decision.

Please double check that you have clicked on both the blue “intend” button to the right of your preferred pathway, and the brown “certify” button at the bottom of the page to complete the process. You will receive an email confirmation. Please keep this for your records as proof of completion.

We thank you for your attention to this matter, and wish you and your family a pleasant evening.

Lakewood Deputy City Manager, Carol Flynn Jacoby reminds everyone of the Lakewood Municipal Code 3273 that forbids drivers from dropping off or picking up children (grades K-12) in any way that encourages them to jaywalk through traffic to get to or from school.

Double parking or stopping at the curb and waving children through traffic are both infractions of the code and are punishable by a substantial fine.  The only safe way to drop off or pick up a child is at the curbside adjacent to the school or at a location near the school where the student can cross at a controlled intersection.  Attached is a copy of the ordinance.  Together, we can work to create a safe environment for our kids.

Please use the Valet Drop-off program that eliminates the need for drivers to get out of their vehicles and assist their passengers.  It provides a quick and efficient process for getting children into school safely.  This program provides a more controlled environment for dropping off children, resulting in increased confidence for both drivers and pedestrians.
